My competitive drive, passion for performance, and commitment to serving others led me to a career I never expected—one where I get to do all three every day.
We moved to South Carolina so my wife, Kate, could complete her nursing program. We fell in love with Charleston—the vibe, the people, and the opportunities—but my salary as a teacher wasn’t enough to cover our expenses and buy a house.
One night, I literally googled, “How is a teacher supposed to buy a house?” I landed on a program called Teacher Next Door, which helps educators purchase homes. That search ended up changing my life—it kickstarted my real estate career.
Almost from the beginning of college, my intention was to be a teacher. I studied biology education with a clear goal in mind: to pursue a career in education. During student orientation, I met Kate. It was love at first sight, and we’ve been together ever since.
My other great love is swimming. I was a competitive swimmer in college and served as our team captain. I also coached a local high school swim team as well as a YMCA team. Education and coaching were in my blood—and still are.
Those college years were some of the most challenging and formative of my life. Our swim practices started at 5 a.m.—not just swimming, but running track, too. Then I’d study physics and chemistry, along with other difficult subjects, followed by teaching classes as part of my training. I’d finish the day at the gym, continuing my workouts. It was grueling, but it taught me something important: I can do hard things. I thought everything else would be easier from that point on—or so I thought.
When Kate and I moved to Charleston, we were ready to buy a home, but it didn’t seem possible—until I connected with Teacher Next Door and met my REALTOR®. He saw something in me and offered me a spot on his team, as a real estate agent.
At first, I wasn’t so sure. Teaching was my passion—not to mention, my students were stuck with me for the semester, whether they liked it or not. That’s not how real estate works. I had to earn trust from people who didn’t know me, in an industry where, let’s be honest, people don’t typically trust REALTORS®. It felt like an uphill climb—but one worth taking.
Turns out, real estate was the perfect fit for me. I didn’t see it as sales—I saw it as education. Helping people understand how to achieve homeownership became my mission. I have a special place in my heart for public servants—teachers, nurses, and first responders—and I love helping them navigate the process.

That passion fueled my success. I became one of the top 40 buyer’s agents in Charleston in my first year. Today, I’m a top agent on Zillow and ranked in the top 2% of agents nationwide. I’m proud to be part of a high-performing team that also gives back to our community. We donate food and cook dinners for families from outside Charleston who are temporarily staying here because their children are hospitalized.
In my free time, I love going to the beach and restaurants, and spending as much time as I can at festivals, markets, and sporting events around town. I still coach a local swim team and teach biology online at Johns Hopkins.
Teaching will always be part of who I am. I just get to do it in different ways now—and that’s an honor.
In addition to my competitive drive, what truly sets me apart as a REALTOR® is my passion for learning and teaching. While most agents are only required to complete 10 hours of training per year, I invest 10 hours every week into continued education. I study best practices, market trends, and advanced strategies so I can deliver top-tier representation—not just for my clients, but also for the new agents I mentor.
With a master’s in education, I understand that everyone learns differently. I tailor my communication to match each client’s learning style and pace, breaking down the buying or selling process into clear, manageable steps. My goal is always to make the experience feel simple, not overwhelming.
But working with me goes far beyond a transaction. My clients become part of a community—and, often, friends for life. I stay in touch, check in just to say hello, and invite them to fun local activities, like sporting events (I cover the tickets). With me, you get more than a REALTOR®—you get a real relationship and become a client for life.
Sincerely,
Kyle Weston
